Tours and residencies

Big smiles after my debut in Japan, with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Takeshi Ooi, and composer Kenji Sakai

Dear friends,

Thanks for your support in my activity! This is the first issue of a newsletter that I will maintain on a somewhat monthly basis: as my projects and concerts increase with each season, I thought it would be a good idea to personally send updates to the people interested in following me.

The next few weeks will be packed with concerts that I am really looking forward to:

April 13 - Verano, Sala Theatro, a recital in my little hometown close to Milan

April 16 - Pesaro, Teatro Sperimentale

April 28 - Napoli, Teatro San Carlo, my most important recital so far this year, with works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert

April 30 - Hohenems, Schubertiade

May 6&8 - Santiago, Chile, Teatro Municipal, my debut in South America with Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto

May 13&14 - Brühl, Schloss Augustusburg

May 17 - Lugano, LAC, another very important debut for me, with works by Janàcek, Beethoven and Schubert

From May 23 to June 2nd, I will be in residency in Siena, with a recital for the Chigiana Academy (May 23), a masterclass for the students of the Conservatorio Franci in Siena, and a performance of Beethoven 4th Concerto with the students of the Conservatorio conducted by Massimiliano Iezzi. This a first example in small scale of the residency model of my future project “Sonata for 7 cities” (https://www.sonatafor7cities.com/)

Finally, I would like to share a personal thought. In every choice we make, as musicians or listeners alike, we take in small part responsibility on the future of music, defining the history of music of today. Unless we all orient our choices towards the most meaningful, beautiful music we can find, we sacrifice some of the beauty that could be, but will never come to be. In our choices, whether they are which concerts we attend, which pieces we play, where and how, we should try to not accept compromises that do not place music as the first priority. Personal interests, exchanges and favours often try to get in the way of that. This new project, Sonata for 7 cities, is particularly dear to me, because I created it without compromise whatsoever, and it truly embodies my artistic and human beliefs, in every detail and aspect. I look forward to sharing more and more information about this project in the coming months! For Italian speakers, here you can read a recent interview about it.

Goodbye for now, and all my best thoughts for the coming weeks!

Yours,

Filippo

ps. I published a video recording of Schubert’s G Major Sonata here. Enjoy!
